Teresa Ybarra Appointed to Represent Bonhams Auction House in Spain

LONDON — Bonhams Auction House has appointed Teresa Ybarra as the company’s representative in Bilbao. A member of the Ilustre Colegio de Abogados del Señorio de Vizcaya (Spanish Law Society), and a qualified lawyer with an honors degree from Spain’s foremost law school, Universidad de Deusto, Ybarra will cover Northern Spain and South West France, where she will help expand Bonhams Auction House ambitions. Her appointment took effect September 1, 2014.

In Bilbao, Ybarra will work closely with Bonhams’ Madrid office headed by Johann Leibbrandt.  She will no doubt be at home in her new position. Having previously worked for two other leading international fine art auction houses in marketing and in the Old Masters department, Ybarra joined Bonhams in early 2014, working at the company’s Knightsbridge saleroom. Before joining Bonhams she worked in law at Gherson Solicitors; Cuatrecasas, Gonçalves Pereira; Melford Capital Partners LLP and for the Spanish Federation of Antique Dealers.

Besides her engagement in the art auction business and art sale, she also volunteers for the non-profit organization Aspanovas, which cares for children with terminal cancer, in her spare time.

Matthew Girling, Bonhams CEO notes that Bonhams is delighted to have Ybarra “represent us in her home town of Bilbao and the adjacent territories of Spain and France. Her personal and professional networks and her legal and arts training will help us to build on our growing success in the region.”
