APPOINTMENT

Honor Westmacott is the new Picture Specialist for Modern, Contemporary & Impressionist Art in Germany

BERLIN, GERMANY—Honor Westmacott has been appointed Bonhams Picture Specialist for Modern, Contemporary & Impressionist Art in Germany. Primarily based in Berlin, Honor’s appointment took effect on July 1.

Honor’s appointment comes with great expectations. There is great hope that expertise will help Bonhams expand its hold on the European art market.   Matthew Girling, Bonhams joint Global CEO, accentuated that prospect when he noted that: “We are delighted to welcome Honor to our successful team in Germany, one of our most important and fastest growing European markets. She will doubtless provide outstanding expertise in her field and broaden our network.”

Honor, who speaks fluent English and German, has both an English and German background.  Beyond her language fluency, the fact that she has spent time in both countries and also lived in South America will be a huge advantage.

Honor brings to Bonhams a world of experience. For more than a decade, she has worked in Modern and Contemporary art departments as a senior specialist for several leading German auction houses and international auction houses, and most recently for Auctionata, the online auctioneer, headquartered in Berlin. She has also been the assistant to a publisher and to the director of another auction house.

Beyond her work in the auction houses, Honor has also curated a number of exhibitions, published articles on the contemporary art scene in Berlin and held charity-auctions.

Honor has an MA in the History of Art from the Courtauld Institute in London (German Art and Cultural Politics 1870-1945) and a BA History of Art from the University of Leicester.

Elated by the new appointment, Honor said: “I am thrilled to be joining the Bonhams European team. I have seen Bonhams work and expand and I think it is a wonderful auction house. I look forward to being able to contribute to its success.”
