CALIFORNIA—Ubisoft, the multinational video game developer and publisher, has won a patent infringement case brought by Digital Reg of Texas, LLC. The suit involved different aspects of authentication and access to digital content delivered via Ubisoft’s Uplay service.
In her summary judgment ruling, U.S. District Judge Claudia Wilkin’s concluded that the company did not infringe any of the many claims of infringement asserted against it, removing the company from the litigation, which also involves Adobe Systems, Inc. and Symantec Corp. The company was represented in the case by Michelle Marriott, Eric Buresh and Mark Lang of Erise IP.
After the ruling at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, Cecile Russell, General Counsel for Ubisoft expressed satisfaction about the judgment: “We are pleased with the outcome of this case and encouraged that the court ruled in favor of our position. We intend to continue aggressively fighting patent cases that target our company, our innovations, and our technologies,” she said.
On its part, the company affirms an absolute commitment to fighting any patent case. “Ubisoft is determined to aggressively fight patent cases that target the company and its innovations and technologies. The company he added is “committed to defending itself against patent assertion entities – referred to as patent “trolls” — that assert invalid or inapplicable patents against the company or the industry.”
