Music Series Brings Art Lovers to National Gallery of Victoria

A popular music series returns to the National Gallery of Victoria with art, live entertainment, and good food

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA- Australian art and music lovers will get the opportunity to unwind and dance the night away with the return of the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV)popular Friday Nights series. Coinciding with the Masterpieces from the Hermitage: The Legacy of Catherine the Great exhibition, the museum has put together an impressive list of leading international and Australian musicians that will entertain art and music guests.

Running from October 2 to November 6, 2015, the list for the Friday Nights series includes Jaako Eino Kalevi (Finland), Gareth Liddiard (The Drones) and the Paul Grabowsky Trio. Jaako Eino Kalevi who left behind tram driving in Helsinki is one of the musicians expected to generate excitement during the Friday Nights at NGV  series. Known for his kind of lush dream-pop, the Finnish musician has attracted a lot music fans on stage and online. His YouTube music video of No End has attracted more than 154,155 views, while Deeper Shadows music video has 48,140 views.

Also expected to thrill art and music fans during the series is folk singer Laura Jean, whose debut album Our Swan Song heralded a powerful new voice in Australian music.

NGV Music Series

Beyond enjoying indie, pop, jazz, good food, folk and rock music, art and music audience will also have after-hours access to Masterpieces of the Hermitage: The Legacy of Catherine the Great. The exhibition draws from the personal collection of Catherine the Great, housed in the Hermitage Museum. For the exhibition, more than 500 works will travel to Australia, including outstanding works by Rembrandt, Velasquez, Rubens and Titian.

Since it started, the popular music series has been an effective way of attracting more audiences to the National Gallery of Victoria. But more importantly, it has also enhanced a lively atmosphere at the museum. Tony Ellwood, Director, NGV, comments:
