Volta Art Fair Moves to Chelsea Industrial New York.

NEW YORK, NY—The Volta Art Fair has revealed a series of transformative changes for its 2024 edition in New York. This 16th edition is scheduled to take place from September 4 to 8. What distinguishes this edition is not only the shift in dates but also the relocation to a new venue, the impressive Chelsea Industrial.

The Chelsea Industrial, with its expansive 22,000-square-foot exhibition space, stands as a testament to Volta’s commitment to providing a captivating and immersive experience for attendees. Positioned strategically between Chelsea and Hudson Yards, this central location places the art event at the epicenter of the city’s bustling arts economy.

Artistic Director Lee Cavaliere’s Vision

Stepping into the role of Artistic Director for this edition is Lee Cavaliere, who assumed the position in July 2023. His influence is expected to be a driving force behind the changes, marking a significant shift in the direction of the Volta Art Fair. In his new role, Cavaliere becomes pivotal in steering the event towards a new chapter. His focus will be on emphasizing the showcase of art that resonates with the diverse world we inhabit.

Expressing his enthusiasm, Lee Cavaliere stated, “Volta is entering a new chapter. That means showcasing art that speaks from the world we all inhabit.” This statement encapsulates his vision for the fair–a platform where tradition seamlessly blends with contemporaneity. He explained that Volta aims to present global perspectives, highlighting not only its core galleries but also giving voice to underrepresented talents from conflict areas and regions with limited access to the Western art market.

To strengthen its foundation, Volta has welcomed new Advisory Board members from both the USA and Europe. This diverse group includes respected figures such as gallerists Ethan Cohen (Ethan Cohen Gallery), Maryana Kaliner (FORMah Gallery), curator Nikki Nita Ramirez, and contemporary artists Ola and Maya Rondiak. Each member brings a unique perspective, aligning with Volta’s goals and vision for the 2024 edition. Their combined expertise ensures a thoughtful curation that resonates with the diverse audience attending the art fair. It also promises an enriching experience for both seasoned collectors and art enthusiasts.

Commitment to New Voices

Volta’s commitment to global perspectives sets it apart in the art fair landscape. The 2024 edition will showcase artists at the cutting edge of their practice, transcending geographical boundaries. By featuring voices from conflict areas and regions with less exposure to the Western art market, Volta hopes to reinforce its role as a unifier, bringing people together through the power of art.

The strategic move to the fall art fair season is not just about a change in timing; it’s a calculated decision to better support galleries throughout the year. This shift opens up new opportunities for collectors to discover rising talent. But more importantly, it ensures a continuous flow of creativity and innovation within the art market. Volta’s dedication to fostering a thriving ecosystem for galleries aligns with its mission to facilitate meaningful connections between artists, collectors, and art enthusiasts.

As Volta transitions to the fall season, there is a palpable sense of anticipation for the energy it will inject into the September art fair season in New York. With its vibrant arts scene, this is a welcome move and refreshing addition to the New York art scene. Expectedly, Volta is promising not just an art fair but an experience that revitalizes the cultural landscape, offering a new perspective and narrative to the art enthusiasts.

Volta Art Fair’s announcement for the 2024 edition heralds a new era in the world of contemporary art. The changes in dates and venue are bold moves to corner the global art market. The addition of Artistic Director Lee Cavaliere also signifies a deliberate effort to evolve and adapt to the dynamic art landscape. The inclusion of new Advisory Board members, gallerists, and contemporary artists amplifies Volta’s commitment to diversity and inclusivity in the art world.
