Newman Collection of rare coins set off a bidding war at Heritage Auctions when coin collectors competed to win valuable rare coins

NEW YORK, NY– Weeks before the Newman Collection of rare coins went on auction at Heritage Auctions in New York, there was great excitement among rare coin and art collectors who were eager to get to the bidding floor.  As expected, when the fifth installment of the Newman Collection auction opened, there was spirited bidding by all those interested in acquiring some of the very rare and valuable coins. After a vigorous bidding contest among collectors, the Eric P. Newman’s outstanding 1794 silver dollar AU50 NGC. Ex: “Col” E.H.R. Green was the undisputed star, bringing $470,000.   Newman’s 1776 Continental Dollar MS62 NGC, in brass followed closely in second place bringing $440,625. His 1776 Continental Dollar, Currency, Pewter MS63 NGC Plain Edge, the finest of four known and the only one that survives in Mint State, proved highly sought-after by collectors, bringing $381,785. All the rare coins presented for sale sold, making more than $10.4 million.

The fifth installment of the Newman Collection reinforces the value of the collection that has been a major attraction for collectors of valuable and rare coins. Greg Rohan, President of Heritage Auctions notes that “This latest installment of the epic Newman Collection proved important not only for the spectacular prices realized on the amazing coins, but also because it represents, once again, another auction where every single coin found a new home. This is as much about the rarity of the coins as it is about Mr. Newman’s acclaimed scholarship and stellar reputation.”
