ART NEWS: Excitement at Museum of Contemporary Art Australia as art grant to fund C3West brings artists and business in Greater Sydney together

AUSTRALIA– The Museum of Contemporary Art Australia (MCA) has received an art grant from the Crown Resorts Foundation to help the museum sustain C3West, one of its key external programs. C3West provides opportunity for artists to work strategically in partnerships with business and non-arts government organizations which engage and enliven the diverse communities of Western Sydney.

Established in 2006, C3West has initiated and carried out programs in partnership with corporations and communities in Greater Sydney, with the objective of delivering targeted and socially awareness projects. C3West engages business in new ways of working together by including contemporary artists in major projects that address local issues and activities.

At the core of C3West objectives is the quest to build a bridge between art organizations and groups. Through new models of engagement with communities and businesses, C3West strives to establish mutual partnership between the arts and other sector as a way of making art very relevant in Greater Sydney.

There is great excitement at Museum of Contemporary Art Australia about the art grant that will provide funding towards projects with partner organizations across Western Sydney, starting with a suite of four projects in Liverpool, Fairfield, Blacktown and Parramatta. Elizabeth Ann Macgregor OBE, MCA Director could not hide how pleased the museum is about the art grant. She notes:

We are thrilled that Crown Resorts Foundation has awarded funding to C3West, the MCA’s strategic arts program in Western Sydney. Through unique brokering processes, C3West creates contexts in which artists collaborate with businesses and non-arts government organizations to deliver targeted and socially aware projects.

Her excitement is shared by C3West Curator Anne Loxley who enthused that ‘This art grant ensures core funding for the program, providing the stability and certainty needed to build ongoing relationships with our partners across Western Sydney.’ With the art grant from Crown Resorts Foundation, the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, through the C3West, will be able to develop new audiences for contemporary art, provide strategic outcomes for non-arts partners and also present art as a pertinent tool for addressing important social issues across Western Sydney.
