ART AUCTION: Art collectors compete for Christie’s online auction of original Pablo Picasso’s  Ceramics

NEW YORK, NY– Christie’s second New York online-only sale dedicated to ceramics produced by Pablo Picasso, the leading artist of the 20th century, exceeded expectations. All the 72 lot presented for sale were sold as art collectors from 13 different countries contested to add the works of this celebrated artists to their collection. The art sale realized a total of $1,300,375.

Held in conjunction with Impressionist & Modern Art week in New York, the online auction is a follow up to the outstanding success of Impressions in Clay: Picasso Ceramics that featured Property from the Estate of Edgar M. Bronfman. The selection of ceramics at the November auction represented the predominant forms and motifs of Pablo Picasso’s celebrated work in this medium. Included in the art sale was a strong selection of statement pieces of excellent quality, including the full set of 8 plates, Service scènes de corrida plates that illustrate Picasso’s lifelong interest in bullfight imagery. This outstanding collection is accompanied by many high quality works including the coveted white earthenware sculpture Footballeur, and the particularly rare variant of Tête de chèvre de profil. Many highlights of the art sale came from important private collections, including The Bergman Collection.

Christie’s second New York online-only sale of ceramics produced by Pablo Picasso, the leading artist of the 20th century, not only exceeded expectations but also shows the upward progression in the art price of works by this great artist.
