The additions span a variety of media, from sculpture and painting to film and ceramics. These aren’t just additions—they’re statements that reflect the museum’s ongoing commitment to presenting diverse, thoughtful, and historically significant art.

Among the most anticipated additions is a powerful 1981 painting by Jean-Michel Basquiat. There is also a tender drawing by Mary Cassatt, Mother Jeanne Nursing Her Baby. The collection also gains a mesmerizing parabolic lens sculpture by Fred Eversley and a trio of new works—a film, a painting, and a sculpture—by contemporary standout Rashid Johnson. Finally, a trio of beautifully detailed Qing dynasty blue-and-white porcelain pieces will bolster the Norton’s Asian art collection.

An Iconic Home, Transformed

If you haven’t been to the Norton recently, the new art acquisitions at the Norton Museum are the perfect reason to go. You’ll not only see new art but also the new space.  The museum underwent a major transformation in 2019. The renovation was courtesy of the internationally renowned architectural firm Foster + Partners, led by Pritzker Prize winner Norman Foster. The renovation added 12,000 square feet of new gallery space and gave the museum a sleek, modern look that blends beautifully with its lush sculpture garden.
