CANADA— Where do great ideas come from? This is one question many creative people have tried to answer for decades.  The answers to where new ideas come from have lead scholars in many directions. While some in the creative field say they get their ideas from nature, others have credited their inventions to what they saw in their dreams, in a picture, or culture. Similarly, some artists have even attributed good ideas to serendipity.

While some ideas seem spontaneous, many creative people assert that great innovations come from spending a long time thinking about an idea. Notwithstanding, no matter where new concepts and ideas come from, what is of utmost importance is the willingness to share the result of that creative experience.

It is in the actualization of sharing that creative experience that we present the Drops Series by David Drumlin. The Drops Series, a three medium-scale highly textured wall sculpture, is featured as part of the Art Project series on Artcentron. In this series of modern sculptures, Drumlin contests the notion of perfection in contemporary life.

With the unfathomable desire for perfection in an imperfect world, it is baffling that humans continue to glorify perfection.  Such glorification is seen in the quest for plastic surgery, the perfect watch, shoes, cars, iPhones, iPad, digital cameras, etc.  What is evident is that perfection has become commodified. Drumlin’s modern sculptures seems a reminder that perfection is merely an illusion

David Drumlin expresses his ideas succinctly:

The Drops Series is a reaction to the glorification of material perfection in contemporary life. As a result, the series seeks to employ the emotive power of texture, as well as prompting us to attach abstract meaning to the presence of the forms.
