ART AUCTION NEWS: Collector pays $212,500 for Marilyn Monroe’s Grave Marker at Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA. –Marilyn Monroe’s grave marker from Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles has sold for $212,500 at Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills. The grave marker was one of the items from Julien’s Auctions highly anticipated Hollywood Legends auction. Originally estimated to sell between $2,000-$4,000 dollars, the Marilyn Monroe grave marker caused so much excitement when it came to the floor. Collectors could not hold back as they competed against one another. In the end, the grave marker fetched far above pre-estimate price.

In addition to Marilyn Monroe’s grave marker, several other items associated with this celebrated actress and sex icon archived great auction prices. One of the items is a dress worn by Monroe in her final film, Something’s Gotta Give (20th C. 1962), which sold for $348,000. A Hugh Hefner signed premiere issue of Playboy Magazine featuring Marilyn Monroe on the cover titillated collectors who strove to own this exceptional piece. In the end, a collector bought it for $87,500.

In an auction that proved that Monroe’s legendary status among Hollywood elite has not waned at all, a Marilyn Monroe inscribed drawing of a nude woman sold for $75,000, while an original Jack Cardiff photographs of Marilyn Monroe sold for $37,500.

Besides the items associated with Marilyn Monroe, several other objects that belonged to celebrities caught the eyes of collectors during the Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills. A Marino Marini bronze sculpture owned by Sid Caesar sold for $252,000, while Her Royal Highness Princess Diana’s Versace Portrait Gown and Magazine sold for $192,000.

Another major highlight of the two-day auction was Marlon Brando’s 1960 Harley-Davidson Motorcycle that sold for $220,000. Also, a Florence Caesar’s Diamond Necklace sold for $56,700 while a Production Archive from Desilu Productions from Star Trek: The Original Series sold for $68,750 over the two days of bidding that took place on-site at Julien’s Auctions Beverly Hills gallery, on the phone and online.
