New Galleries Woo Collectors and are ready to compete with industry giants as Art Basel 2019 begins in Basel Switzerland.

BASEL, SWITZERLAND -As Art Basel 2019 begins, many art lovers are looking forward to an exciting art event. Already, guests are arriving in Basel Cities in anticipation of an eventful art fair The art fair is one of the most prominent art events of the season. Two hundred and ninety leading galleries from 34 countries will be part of Art Basel 2019.

While many of the Art Basel 2019 exhibitors are returning to the annual show, 19 galleries are joining the fair for the first time. The organizers of the art fair attribute the presence of the new galleries to the exceptional effort put into organizing the annual art event and innovations. One of the new additions to Art Basel 2019 is a new sliding-scale pricing system that provides additional support for smaller and mid-sized galleries.

Art Basel Exhibitors 2019

The galleries and exhibitors at this year’s Art Basel will present artworks ranging from the Modern period of the early 20th century to the most contemporary artists. Galleries from Europe continue to be strongly represented. The show also features returning and new exhibitors from across the globe, including Asia, Europe, North and South America, the Middle East, and Africa.

Cheim & Read

Cheim & Read is one of the galleries returning for this year’s Art Basel. Founded by John Cheim and Howard Read in 1997, the gallery works with an international group of leading contemporary artists whose work ranges from painting to sculpture, photography, and video. This group of artists has exhibited extensively in museums and galleries worldwide. Cheim & Read will be presenting works by Joan Mitchell, Jack Pierson, Ron Gorchov, Lynda Benglis, Louise Bourgeois, Sean Scully, and Jonathan Lasker at this year’s Art Basel.

Tanya Bonakdar Gallery

For more than 20 years, Tanya Bonakdar Gallery has been at the forefront of promoting works by contemporary artists. Its contemporary program has been very effective in helping the gallery grow. The Gallery now represents more than thirty distinguished artists worldwide. The artists work across all media including painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, photography, and video.

Additionally, Tanya Bonakdar Gallery will also present works of Martin Boyce, Olafur Eliasson, Laura Lima, Mark Manders, Ernesto Neto, Rivane Neuenschwander, and Lisa Oppenheim. Others include Analia Saban, Tomás Saraceno, Thomas Scheibitz, Slavs and Tatars, Haim Steinbach, Sarah Sze, Gillian Wearing, and Nicole Wermers.

Lehmann Maupin

In 1996, Rachel Lehmann and David Maupin came together to form Lehmann Maupin. Since it was founding 23 years ago, the gallery has grown, representing a diverse range of American artists. The gallery also represents artists and estates from across Europe, Asia, Africa, South America, and the Middle East. Through the years, Lehmann Maupin has made a name for championing artists who create groundbreaking and challenging forms of visual expression.

During Art Basel 2019, the gallery will present the works of McArthur Binion, Lee Bul, Liu Wei, Liza Lou, Lari Pittman, and Cecilia Vicuña. There also selected artists from China, Korea, and the Americas, indicating the international scope of Lehmann Maupin’s program. Rachel Lehmann has locations in New York, Hong Kong, and Seoul. The gallery will also participate in the Art Basel Unlimited section of the Art Basel. There, the gallery will present a major installation by Do Ho Suh.

Gagosian Gallery

Gagosian is one of the most recognizable galleries in the global art world. In three decades, it has made a name for itself because of its vibrant contemporary program.  With sixteen exhibition spaces in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, London, Paris, Rome, Athens, Geneva, and Hong Kong,  Gagosian has been fostering the growth of contemporary art by holding major exhibitions. Some of the exhibitions feature the work of leading international artists, including Georg Baselitz, Ellen Gallagher, Andreas Gursky, Jeff Koons, and Takashi Murakami. Others include Anselm Kiefer, Ed Ruscha, Richard Serra, Taryn Simon, Rachel Whiteread, and several others.

For this year, Gagosian will be presenting works by Georg Baselitz, Joe Bradley, Alexander Calder, Willem de Kooning, Urs Fischer, and Ellen Gallagher. Others include Alberto Giacometti, Katharina Grosse, Mark Grotjahn, Jeff Koons, Man Ray, Albert Oehlen, and Pablo Picasso. Artworks by Richard Prince, Ed Ruscha, Richard Serra, Andy Warhol, Mary Weatherford, Tom Wesselmann, and Franz West, among others will be on display.

In addition to showing works in its booth, Gagosian will also feature works by Edgar Cleijne and Ellen Gallagher, Duane Hanson, Steven Parrino, Giuseppe Penone, and Tom Wesselmann in Art Basel Unlimited 2019.  Curated by Gianni Jetzer, Unlimited is an exhibition platform for exciting large-scale works that transcend the limits of the standard art fair booth. It was launched in 2000.

While many galleries returning to Art Basel 2019 will have a lot to offer, the 19 new galleries participating in the art fair for the first time have a lot to offer.  From painting to sculpture, and mixed media works, these galleries are bringing out the best from the artists they manage and are determined to woo collector.
