CALIFORNIA– Imagine a street alive with the aromas of global cuisine, vibrant music at every turn, and people from diverse backgrounds united in celebration. This is the Orange International Street Fair (OISF)—a cherished Southern California tradition held annually in the historic district of Old Towne Orange.
Every Labor Day weekend, Old Towne Orange transforms into a vibrant celebration of international cultures. Established in 1973 to mark the city’s centennial, the fair has grown into a major event, attracting more than 500,000 visitors annually. The OISF offers a rich sensory experience, featuring authentic ethnic foods, live music, artisan crafts, and family-friendly entertainment.
Originally conceived to commemorate the Orange Plaza Centennial, the event quickly became an annual tradition. Organized by OISF, Inc., a local nonprofit, the fair emphasizes cultural exchange, community support, and volunteerism. All proceeds benefit over 40 local nonprofit organizations, reinforcing its role as both a festival and a vehicle for community impact.
A hallmark of the fair is its internationally themed streets. Each street represents a different culture, decorated and staffed by volunteers in traditional attire. Food, drinks, and music are tailored to each country, offering an immersive cultural experience.
Examples include:
Additional themed streets include Polynesian, English, Italian, Swiss, and Japanese. Every food booth is operated by a nonprofit, with 100% of proceeds reinvested into the community.
Entertainment is central to the OISF experience. Eight stages host over 40 musical acts, offering continuous performances throughout the weekend.
The fair is designed for all ages. The dedicated Kids Street offers games, crafts, educational exhibits, and cultural activities. Children can enjoy face painting, puppet shows, balloon artists, and storytelling. The pedestrian-only layout and visible security presence ensure a safe and relaxed environment for families.
Beyond food and music, the fair showcases the work of local artisans and small businesses. Visitors can browse stalls featuring:
