The Baltimore police have arrested a 66-year-old man in connection with the Jewish Museum of Maryland arson attack. This arrest is the result of a thorough investigation into a fire set on August 4, 2024, which has since been classified as a potential hate crime. This incident has garnered substantial attention from both local authorities and federal agencies, given its implications and the nature of the attack.

On August 4, 2024, someone deliberately set a fire outside the Jewish Museum of Maryland in the unit block of Lloyd Street. CCTV footage captured the entire act of arson, which has been crucial in identifying the suspect. According to reports, the footage shows an individual driving up to the museum, placing an incendiary device in front of the locked gates. Soon after, he ignites it before fleeing the scene. The fire, although contained and relatively small in footprint became a major concern for many people. There was a significant apprehension in the Jewish community due to its targeted nature and the context of the museum’s location.

By August 9, 2024, investigators had successfully identified the suspect, leading to his arrest the following day. Baltimore City SWAT officers apprehended the man with a history of fire-related crimes at his residence in the 700 block of Druid Park Lake Drive. Thankfully, there was no incident during the arrest. He now faces charges related to the arson.

The investigation into the fire involved several agencies. Federal authorities, including the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), partnered with Baltimore City fire investigators to gather evidence. Captain Dennis Dawson from the Baltimore City Fire Department’s Fire Investigation Bureau indicated that the investigation focused on the origin of the fire and its implications.

He stated that the incident appears to be an attempt to intimidate the Jewish community in downtown Baltimore.
