Art is a competitive industry. Thousands of artists are trying to create a name for themselves and get their art out to the world, but this is no easy task. In addition to creativity, you must also know how to market yourself and do things differently from everyone else. Here are a few tips to make your art stand out from the competition.

Embrace Social Media

As mentioned already, being an artist does not solely mean creating pieces day in and day out. There is a social aspect as well, and you need to market yourself and your works to establish an audience for your work. There are many ways to do this, with one terrific example being social media. A seemingly infinite number of art communities, hashtags, forums, and specific sites are devoted to celebrating and sharing new art and artists. Capitalize on this and get your name out there, and soon you’ll have a following that truly understands the value of your work.

Choose Your Materials Carefully

Artists choose various mediums and often stick to what they know instead of dabbling in other styles and materials. However, even within these mediums, artists can expand their creativity. For example, they can use an incredible number of styles and movements, techniques, and equipment.

For example, some practice hot cast bronze in sculpting, while others cast with resin. Being an artist means making choices like this every day, and to stand out with your art, consider choosing the more complicated materials and production methods. Doing this makes your art look much more refined and elegant than others.

Be Transparent

Another way you can distinguish yourself and your works from your competition is by being transparent. Transparency comes in many forms, making you and your art endearing to regular audiences and eliminating the barrier between art and the consumer. For example, you could work like Bob Ross and discuss your techniques and inspiration with people on social media, or you could live stream the process of creating art. Any of these may seem complicated and weird at first, especially if you’re not naturally extroverted, but it also makes your art more well-known and accessible to audiences.

Making your art stand out from the competition is not easy, but making a name for yourself is necessary. Without going out of your way to market yourself and your art, it may blend into the background and never stick out, regardless of how talented an artist you may be. Still focus on your art, but don’t forget to do things differently here and there and put yourself out there.
