BALTIMORE—Lovers of folk music are in for a great time when The East Pointers take the stage at the Creative Alliance on April 20. The performance is part of the group’s US tour. Celebrated for dazzling musicianship and wildly entertaining live shows, The East Pointers connect with audiences across the globe by making new original roots music that is hip and vibrant.

Three Folk Music Artists on Stage

Made up of fiddler/singer Tim Chaisson, banjoist Koady Chaisson, and guitarist Jake Charron, The East Pointers borrow from life to create heart-rending modern folk music. Through melodic rhythm, they sketch out the joys and sorrows of life in vivid strokes. The authenticity of their songs and instrumental tunes further give credence and poignancy to their lyric-driven songs. For this reason, some people have described their composition as modern folk music.

Although based in Canada, The East Pointers have been to many parts of the world performing and reaching out with open arms to a wide range of listeners, inviting them to discover a new love of folk music. In 2015, The East Pointers released their debut album Secret Victory, and it took the world by storm. In 2017, Secret Victory won the Juno Award for Traditional Roots Album of the Year.  While this was a great achievement, the group saw it as the impetus to be even more creative in their compositions and performances.

As a follow up to Secret Victory, The East Pointers released What We Leave Behind, a beautiful album nourished by the medley of chorus and strings. Produced by superstar East Coast-bred songwriter/producer Gordie Sampson, the album includes stories previously unheard but framed by a familiar context. Borrowing from traditions of Canadian Celtic music, the group achieved a captivating balance between their traditional-sounding instrumental tunes and catchy radio-ready songs.  The brilliant and hotly anticipated second album is already winning hearts across the globe.

Since The East Pointers tour started, they have been to New York, Pennsylvania, and now Baltimore.  The Baltimore performance is expected to win the group more fans as they thrill people with their type of folk music. Soon after the Baltimore performance, The East Pointers will travel to Virginia, North Carolina, and New Orleans where they will be part of the New Orleans Jazz &Heritage Festival 2018. After Us Tour, the group will embark on a tour of the United Kingdom. With their music, the group sheds some light on the importance of folk music.
