SEATTLE American actor, model, political activist and philanthropist, Jason George is the new addition to the cast of the highly anticipated Shondaland Grey’s Anatomy firefighter spinoff that will take place in a Seattle firehouse. The new 10-episode series examines the personal lives of firefighters, bringing focus to the jeopardy they face in the line of duty.
Presently, George plays Dr. Miranda Bailey’s (Chandra Wilson) sexy anesthesiologist turned surgeon husband, Dr. Ben, on the very popular Grey’s Anatomy on ABC. George was a recurring character of the very popular series since Season 6 before joining the main cast in Season 12. Until the production for the firefighter spinoff begins, Jason George will continue to play the prominent role of Dr. Ben on Grey’s Anatomy throughout the fourteenth season.
Jason George is just one the new additions to the firefighter spinoff cast. Jaina Lee Ortiz and Alberto Frezza best known as Deputy Garrett Sykes in Dead of Summer are some of the other casts in the lead roles of the spinoff ordered straight-to-series by ABC. It is uncertain how George’s transition from Grey’s Anatomy to the firefighter spinoff will happen. The exact storyline of the firefighter spinoff is also unknown. Spearheading the spinoff is Grey’s Anatomy alum Stacy McKee who also serves as the showrunner. Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers are executive producers with McKee. Shondaland will produce the series with ABC Television Studios alongside producing director Paris Barclay.
Although well-known for his role in Grey’s Anatomy, Jason George has also made great appearances in other TV shows. He was the sexy and suave Dominic on ABC’s Mistresses where he gave a breakout performance. Jason also played the Emmy nominated Michael Bourne on the NBC daytime soap opera Sunset Beach. Additional TV credits include Eve, Witches of East End, and Barbershop, among many others. The classically trained theater actor also recently starred in the well-received controversial play, 12 Angry Men, which won the NAACP Theater Award for Best Production.
While celebrated for his roles on television and stage, Jason’s ambition as a young man was to follow a career path in law, a profession influenced by his mentor, a Virginia Supreme Court Justice. However, all that changed after a college friend convinced him to take acting classes where he discovered his true calling on the stage.
Born in Virginia, Jason George was raised in a military family. After receiving a BA from the University of Virginia, he went on to get his Master of Fine Arts in Acting from Temple University. Jason’s first major acting job was on Aaron Spelling’s Sunset Beach after winning a nationwide search out of 14,000 people and received an Emmy nomination for his role.
Jason George is a busy man who is also looking for ways to collaborate with others as part of his effort to better himself and encourage others to do better. In his free time, Jason devotes his attention to educating and engaging with other artists and youth. He has previously lectured, hosted panels, and has given keynote and commencement speeches for at-risk youth groups, school, and universities.
