LONDON, KNIGHTSBRIDGE— A three-stone diamond ring previously owned by Agatha Christie’s mother was bought in the Bonhams Jewellery auction yesterday by writer Sophie Kinsella’s husband, as a surprise for his wife. The diamond ring went for £21,875 ($35,452) inc. premium.
The stone diamond ring along with a diamond brooch was hidden in a locked box in an old trunk that belonged to Agatha Christie’s mother. One of Agatha Christie’s die-hard fans bought the old truck for £100 in 2006 during a sale. The pieces of jewelry were undiscovered for four years until the buyer decided to do a reconstruction in her home. That was when she discovered the miracle in the old truck.
The sale of the diamond ring to Sophie Kinsella’s husband adds to the mystery of Christie’s lost family jewels. With the sale, the jewel has passed from one writer to another in the most mystifying way. Like Agatha Christie, Sophie Kinsella is a famous author of female-orientated literature. She has written twenty novels that have brought her great critical and popular acclaim. Her gripping novel, Confessions of a Shopaholic, was made into a movie in 2009. It starred Hollywood actress Isla Fisher.
Kinsella is over the moon about this thoughtful gift. Commenting on the $35,452 gift, Kinsella said, “I was bowled over by this incredible surprise. Agatha Christie is the hugest inspiration and source of pleasure to me. I’ve read all her books, many times over and I feel very moved at the idea of having a piece of jewelry that was once hers.”

The sale of the diamond ring at the Bonhams Jewellery auction to Sophie Kinsella’s husband, as a surprise for his wife, elevates the mystery of the Christie’s lost family jewels to an unexpected climax. Also sold during the auction is a diamond brooch also found in the old trunk. Although the diamond brooch fetched an extraordinary price, all the focus is on a three-stone diamond ring. There are speculations that the diamond ring might inspire Kinsella’s next novel. Kinsella is a bestselling author with many books to her credit. She lives in London with her husband and children. Her books address issues of love, romance, and human experiences.
