MUSIC: Asia’s top music artist Yoshiki will thrill anime and manga fans with a special concert based on his Classical World Tour and composition at Otakon.

BALTIMORE— Appreciation of Asian music is growing across the globe. One of the famous Asian musicians that have put the music of Asia on the world map is Yoshiki. In 2010, when Yoshiki appeared at Otakon with Sugizo, he gave a rousing performance that got the audience asking for more. Now, they are about to get their wish.  

When Otakon opens on August 8 at the Baltimore Convention Center, the audience will have the opportunity to enjoy Yoshiki’s music again.

Who is Yoshiki?

Yoshiki Hayashi, popularly known as Yoshiki, is a Japanese musician, songwriter, drummer, and classically-trained pianist. He was born on November 20, 1965. The multi-talented founder of X-Japan will give his audience a full concert performance during the Otakon Sunday Concert. This is a special performance in which Yoshiki, one of Asia’s top music artists, will perform a show based on his Yoshiki Classical World Tour.

One of Asia’s most influential musical artists and biggest rock icons, Yoshiki is excited to share Yoshiki Classical, a new collection of compositions. The album was released worldwide in the fall of 2013 and continues to excite his global audience.

At the core of the new album is Yoshiki’s outstanding ability and quality skills that have made him Asia’s top music artist. The album was the result of collaborations between Yoshiki and legendary Beatles producer Sir George Martin, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Quartet San Francisco.

Since its release, Yoshiki Classical has been receiving accolades from across the globe. It debuted at #1 on the iTunes Classical Music chart in 10 countries around the world. Similarly, it also made a Top 10 debut in four countries. Yoshiki Classical received top commendations from Billboard Magazine, MTV, Reuters, and AOL.

Classic FM describes Yoshiki Classical as an “enlightening exploration of one musical auteur’s quest to turn his music into something more than a series of rock ballads.” On its part, Pianist Magazine describes Yoshiki Classical as a “true labor of love from a talented artist who’s made an impressive mark within the classical and rock genres.”

Yoshiki is famous for his role as the founder of Japan’s biggest rock band, “X Japan.” Under the leadership of Yoshiki, “X Japan” has sold more than 30 million singles and albums. This does not include several sold-out world tours. The musical group sold out the 55,000-capacity Tokyo Dome a record 18 times. Yoshiki is the catalyst for the flamboyant visual-kei rock sub-genre. He is a world-renowned, classically trained multi-instrumentalist, composer, and musician.

Yoshiki’s talent has made him a top music artist around the globe.  The 2012 Golden Globe Awards theme song, which he composed, is available in 111 countries. He composed and performed an orchestral piece/piano concerto to commemorate the Japanese Emperor’s 10th anniversary of his reign, along with the theme for the World Expo held in Japan.

Beyond music, Yoshiki is famous for his unique style and impact on people. After meeting Yoshiki, Marvel comic legend Stan Lee created the music superhero comic book series “Blood Red Dragon” based on Yoshiki. Not long ago, Madame Tussaud unveiled the Yoshiki wax figure.

Yoshiki continuously builds his brand wherever he goes. In addition to his own clothing and jewelry line, he also has a branded Yoshiki VISA Card. He also owns a line of wine called “Y by Yoshiki.” For the first time in history, a Hello Kitty product line was named after a person – Yoshikitty. As if that was not enough, Yoshiki launched his very own YOSHIKI special edition headphones in December 2013.
