LONDON — In memory of the late son of ex-Formula 1 and 500cc motorcycle world champion John Surtees, Bonhams auctioneers will once again take to the rostrum at the third annual charity auction on Tuesday 1st July. Bonhams Co-Chairman Malcolm Barber will serve as auctioneer at the Mercedes-Benz World, Surrey.
Widely tipped as a star of the future, Henry Surtees was tragically killed in a freak accident while driving in a Formula 2 event at Brands Hatch in July 2009.
The Henry Surtees Foundation helps people with accidental brain and physical injuries and provides education and training in technology, engineering, and fitness.
Besides the 22 exciting lots, a Charity Challenge two-hour endurance race in Daytona Dmax High-Performance Karts will also take place. Last year the event raised £58,000 combined with the charity auction proceeds.
This year’s auction features an exciting diversity of items, including a limited edition newly introduced Scalfaro John Surtees watch incorporating materials from his MV Agusta and Ferrari 158; an original signed Sebastian Vettel 2012 race suit; a Red Bull Racing rear wing endplate signed by Christian Horner, Adrian Newey, Sebastian Vettel, and Daniel Ricciardo; afternoon tea at the Savoy and a private viewing of the Crown Jewels with Harry Collins the Queen’s jeweler donated by him; two VIP tickets to Wings & Wheels air show donated by Brooklands Museum; a year’s supply of Kurt Geiger shoes, plus the chance to secure two Porsche hospitality tickets for any British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) event of 2014.
Malcolm Barber looks forward to an exciting auction. “This auction is a fantastic event where every year people stand the chance to not only take home some truly remarkable items but also know that their final bid will be going to a worthy cause,” he said.
“Barber sees his participation in the auction as a privilege and is happy “to see that there have been some truly generous donations for the auction.
The auction will begin at approximately 6.30 pm. Full detail of the auction is on Bonhams auctioneers website.
