LOS ANGELES- Expectations were high that Star Wars: The Force Awakens would break all records weeks before it opened in theatres. Without any doubt, the movie has exceeded all expectations. Just on the opening weekend in North American alone, Star Wars: The Force Awakens made $248 million in tickets sale. Since the movie opened, ticket sales have soared. On Monday, the movie had broken all world records, earning $40.1 million domestically.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens North American opening weekend ticket sale is very significant. It surpasses Avatar that made $85 million over the first three days opening release. It also did better than The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. The 2012 movie made $87.5.

The reason the Star Wars: The Force Awakens is generating so much attention is not just because of the breathtaking commercials, trailers  and gift offered by movie theaters, it is also due to the word of mouth. All those who have seen the new movie have been spreading the words about how great the Star Wars: The Force Awakens is. “I went to see the movie because of the noise around it”, says Emilio. “I am glad I did. It is a great  movie and anyone who loves Syfy should go and see it. it is very entertaining” he added.

Andrea who was inspired to see the movie because of what he heard from friends also thinks Star Wars: The Force Awakens is a great movie. “I love it,” he said with excitement written all over his face. He is, however, quick to caution that anyone who has not seen the earlier movies in the series may miss out because of where the Star Wars: The Force Awakens starts from. ” If you have not seen some of the earlier Star Wars movies, you will be missing out on important clues in the story,” he said. “That notwithstanding,  I think that the new Star Wars movie is good on its own.”

Anthony who saw the movie at the Senator Theatre was convinced to see it because of what his colleagues said at work. “They kept saying all these good things about the movie that I was forced to see,” he said.  His impressing is that this is a great movie. “It is a very good movie. The story is what make it very interesting. I hope Hollywood can see that  special effects is not enough. You also need a good story,” he said.

Beside the word of mouth, reviews have also been glowing for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. From the New York Times to The New Yorker, Rolling Stone and others, reviews have been filled with praises for the new Star Wars movie.  Not surprising, the world wide launch ticket sales for the Star Wars was over $524.9 million. It has grown since then. Internationally, the Star Wars: The Force Awakens has added $41.7 million in receipts, pushing its worldwide sale to $610.8 million.  With  the record sales, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has smashed multiple box office records, becoming the largest grossing movie on opening weekend in North America. With the record sale made by the new Star Wars movie, Hollywood seems to be dragging itself out of years of doldrums. Star Wars seems to have rejuvenated the hope for new blockbusters.  Evidently, the dig out is not just starting now. It began with Jurassic World  which made $208.8 million over the first three days in June.

Directed by J.J. Abrams, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has surpassed all expectations, and it has become an impetus for movie studios to challenge themselves to make other great movies. Already, there are plans to make three more Avatar films. Preparations are also on for a new Indiana Jones movie. The race is on to make the movie before Harrison Ford gets too old.
