NEW YORK, NY— The year 2014 has been a great year at Sotheby’s. From the beginning of the year to end, the auction house presented works by famous artists that made record auction results. In November during the Impressionist & Modern Art Evening sale in New York, for instance, Alberto Giacometti’s Chariot sold for £63,130,745 / $100,965,000, while Amedeo Modigliani’s Tête sold for £44,222,473 / $70,725,000, establishing a record for the artist at auction. The Old Master & British Paintings Evening sale in London in December also established new art auction record. JWM Turner’s Rome, From Mount Aventine sold for £30,322,500 / $47,430,454. Estimated at £15 – 20 million, the piece surpassed all estimation, setting a record for the artist at auction. Below are the Top Ten Highest Prices at Sotheby’s Auctions in 2014.
