ENTERTAINMENT: Hollywood Finds God in Three Bible Stories.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA —Hollywood has found God. This year, three new movies based on bible stories will hit the big screens. Exodus, Son of God and Noah have been generating a lot of excitement since the news went round that they were in production. While many famous bible stories have been made into movies in the past, there are indications that these three movies have amazing new takes on some of the old themes that will have viewers on the edge of their seats. They are some of the great Bible stories for adults and teenagers as well as those interested in learning about the bible

Exodus starring Christian Bale, Joel Edgerton, Aaron Paul, Ben Kingsley, John Turturro, and Sigourney weaver.

Directed by Ridley Scott

One of the movies based on bible stories to hit the big screen this year is Exodus directed by Ridley Scott.  Exodus follows the epic story of Moses who was ordered by God to go to Egypt and set the Israelites free from the oppressive rule of the pharaohs.  Based on The Book of Exodus, the second book of the Hebrew Bible, and one of the five books of the Torah, Scott followed the transformation of Moses played by Christian Bale, from an Egyptian prince to a Jewish leader.

Scott’s directorial approach of the bible exodus brings to bear not just the human elements of the story, but the process of change. Even as Scott examines the struggle of Moses and the oppressed Israelites he went to set free, he did not miss communicating the spiritual theme of the great encounter. Perhaps this is why there is so much expectation for the Exodus as one of the most intriguing Bible Stories to hit the big screen.

Son of God starring Diogo Morgado, Roma Downey, and Darwin Shaw is one of the new bible stories to hit the big screen.

Directed by Christopher Spencer. February 28

When the bible miniseries aired on History last year, it was the talk of the town. On Twitter, Facebook, and other social media platforms, viewers debated and discussed every aspect of the story. From costumes to characterizations and even accents, nothing was beyond limit. Even in churches, conversations were endless about the impact of the series on Christianity and Christians.

Based on the success of the miniseries, producers Mark Burnett and Roma Downey have condensed five episodes and added new footage to retell the story of Jesus Son of God played by Diogo Morgado.  The new footage which makes up a quarter of the film is new, giving this one of the compelling Bible Stories from Hollywood. Titled Son of God, the movie will be on the big screen in February. News of the release is already generating a lot of controversies.

There are those who think the movie is unnecessary because other films have already addressed this issue. They point to The Passion of the Christ, a brutal account of Christ’s last days directed by Mel Gibson in 2004.  Son of God, however, has many supporters who are looking forward to the release date.

The hope of the producers is that the Son of God Film will provide a new experience and make a great impact on viewers. and lovers of movies based on Bible Stories.  Additionally, it is the hope that those who have been asking the question “What does Son of God mean?” will find answers in this Son of God movie,  which has been described as a major motion picture event.

Noah: Starring Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Ray Winstone, Emma Watson, Logan Lerman, and Anthony Hopkins.

Directed by Darren Aronofsky. March 28

When Noah told the people on earth he had been instructed by God to build an ark of cypress because of an impending disaster, many laughed at him. The people, who had become corrupt, violent, and unsightly before God, did not see why the Almighty would want to destroy both them and the world.  But God was serious. In Genesis 17 God was clear:  “I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish.” In the end, however, Noah was vindicated.

The disaster that befell the people after years of rain was apocalyptic in the true sense of the word. Millions were killed and there was devastation across the earth.  The directorial approach and the use of CGI make this movie one best Bible Stories to watch.

Located in the Book of Genesis, the story of Noah has been told many times before. What makes this different, however, is the amazing visual effects that will help viewers experience the epic proportion of the disaster.  Director Darren Aronofsky, who directed the Black Swan, is well-known not just for his ability to achieve amazing visual effects, but also create unpredictable twists and turns.

Noah is a star-studded production starring Russell Crow as Noah and Anthony Hopkins as his long-lived grandfather Methuselah. Other actors include Jennifer Connelly, Logan Lerman, and Emma Watson.  Of course, this is not to ignore the 50 feet tall and 500 feet long ark that took three months to build.
